Three people missing after vehicle washed away in Sutlej River

Shimla/Recong-peo: Three people were washed away and one injured when a vehicle plunged down the Sutjej River last evening, a district administration spokesperson informed on Thursday.

A pick-up vehicle fell into Sutlej on Jani Sampark Marg under the Nichar sub-division of Kinnaur district last evening.

The administration said that out of four people sitting in the vehicle, only one was injured and survived, and the rest were washed along with the vehicle. In the strong current of the Sutlej River, none of them were traced out.

Victims include three women identified as Champa Devi, wife of Jeevan Singh, Anita Devi, wife of Ranbir Singh, and Jeevan Singh (driver). One victim, identified as Rajkumari, wife of Purshottam, was injured in the mishap and is admitted to JSW Hospital at Sholtu in Kinnuar district for medical treatment.

A police rescue team from Police Station Tapri rushed to the spot and tried to trace out missing victims, but they could only save one injured woman who fell out of the ill-fated vehicle in the middle of the hill.

Relief and rescue operation is underway.
