Siliguri: West Bengal ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Wednesday called a 24-hour Cooch Behar district bandh to protest the alleged attack on its supporters during a clash with the opposition BJP on Tuesday evening, official sources said.

The clashes among the rival supporters happened at Dinhata in the presence of state minister for North Bengal Development Udayan Guha and Junior Union home minister Nitish Pramanik, in which Cooch Behar SDPO Dilip Mitra and two other TMC supporters sustained wounds, sources added.

The clashes erupted after a poll campaign rally, which was addressed by Paramanik, was over, and a rally led by Udayan Guha came face-to-face at Dinhata. Guha had gone to attend a party leader on his birthday and had stepped out on the road with his followers.

The state police had to use batons to disperse the warring rival supporters.
