Agartala: As many as 235 persons have been held in Tripura in the last three years for illegally infiltrating from Bangladesh, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha apprised the assembly while responding to a reference notice from TIPRA Motha MLA Ranjit Debbarma.

He asserted that the security along the Indo-Bangladesh border as well as in the state has been strengthened further as the measures to prevent infiltration from across the border have been taken and the Tripura police are working in coordination with the BSF.

The work of barbed wire fencing along the Tripura-Bangladesh border is almost complete, barring a stretch of about 50 km in some stretches due to the presence of rivers, valleys, and drains. In some spots, fencing cannot be completed due to the objections of the Bangladesh Border Guard.

In 2021, altogether, four cases of infiltration were registered, and 41 Prosecution Reports were submitted against 52 persons.

In 2022, the same number of cases were registered while 61 Prosecution reports were submitted against 123 arrested persons, and in this year so far, 27 cases have been registered and 60 persons have been arrested on the charge of illegal infiltration, CM added.
