Agartala: The opposition CPI (M) state secretary and MLA Jitendra Chaudhury on Friday in a letter to Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha demanded to constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to conduct an inquiry into the alleged murder of Class IX student Dipashree Das in the house of a BJP leader on the pretext of religious purification as she had eloped with a Muslim boy.
Chaudhury in the letter stated that more than a month has passed since Dipashree Das was allegedly murdered in a most extraordinary situation under confinement inside the house of the BJP leader Biplab Sen of Kalacherra in Sabroom under South Tripura for religious purification.
The girl was taken to the house of Sen in Sabroom where she was subjected to torture by a group of people. She was shifted to a local hospital with serious injuries on October 8. Later, she was taken to Agartala Govt Medical College in critical condition and then to Kolkata where she died after a week.
The police have not yet taken any effective move to arrest the criminal responsible behind her murder and to unearth the fact despite repeated persuasion with the police in different ranks including Director General of Police, he alleged.
“More surprisingly, neither the chairperson of Tripura Commission for Women nor any of its members till now met with the family members of the victim to take stock of this saddest incident and on the contrary, they had visited the house of Biplab Sen, the alleged murderer of Dipashree Das,” Chaudhury mentioned.
According to an eye-witness, the members of the TCW received grand hospitality including delicious food at the house of Biplab Sen. It is a general practice, after visiting any place in connection with any case regarding torture, injustice on women; the Commission makes a statement but in this case the Women Commission suspiciously remains tight-lipped.
“Biplab Sen, who is supposedly a prime accused in this case, had close-door meetings with the OC of Manubazar police station several times,” Chaudhury alleged adding that the father of the victim verbally alleged that Biplab Sen offered Rs 20 lakh to him through one of his relatives with a proposal to negotiate the case out of court.
Chaudhury urged CM’s intervention explaining that these eventualities convincingly suggested that there is a systematic attempt to hush up the case and to acquit actual offenders of the alleged murder of Dipashree Das and requested the Chief Minister to constitute an SIT to investigate the case and immediately arrest the prime accused
