Washington: US President Donald Trump and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer discussed the details of the new trade deal during the semi-final game of the Champions League, where Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) defeated Arsenal, The Independent reported.

Starmer received a call from Trump halfway through the match, which ended with PSG knocking out Arsenal 2-1, “waving off” efforts by Downing Street officials to get him focused on the game, the newspaper said on Friday.

“I am the sort of person that tries to have constructive and positive relations with people,” Starmer told The Independent, adding: “I don’t really believe in slamming doors and that sort of way of doing politics. For me, politics is about delivery and we have struck up a good relationship.”

Trump said on Thursday that the US-UK trade deal marked the beginning of multiple international trade agreements.

The US president emphasized that it was a great honor for the United States to have the United Kingdom as the first country with which the US announced a trade deal after introducing reciprocal tariffs in April.
