Washington: Massad Boulos, the father-in-law of US President Donald Trump’s daughter Tiffany, has been appointed as Senior Advisor for Africa and will be traveling to the region this week in his new role, the US State Department announced on Tuesday.
“The Department of State is pleased to announce the appointment of Massad Boulos as Senior Advisor for Africa.,” the department said in a press release.
On April 3, Boulos, who also serves as Senior Advisor to the President on Arab and Middle Eastern Affairs, and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Corina Sanders will travel to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, Kenya, and Uganda to meet with heads of state and discuss efforts to reach durable peace in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, the release added.
Semafor reported in March that Boulos, a Lebanon-born businessman whose son Michael is married to Tiffany Trump, is being assigned to the new position in part because he spent many years in Nigeria and knows the region, according to the report. He also helped Trump to win over Arab Americans during the last election and thus earned the president’s trust.
