Bengaluru: Voting for six coveted seats in Karnataka’s Legislative Council kicked off at 8 AM today, set to run until 4 PM. The stakes are high as the Congress aims for a clean sweep to secure a majority in the Upper House, while the BJP and JD(S) are determined to make their mark.

The Congress is ambitiously contesting all six seats. The BJP has put forward candidates in four constituencies, and the JD(S) is vying for two seats, making this a multi-cornered contest with a total of 78 candidates in the fray.

In the Karnataka North-East Graduates constituency, Dr Chandrashekar Patil represents the Congress, and Amarnath Patil is the BJP candidate.

For the Karnataka South West Graduates constituency, Congress senior leader Ayanur Manjunath, who recently joined after quitting the BJP, is contesting against Dr Dhananjaya Sarji of the BJP.

In the Bengaluru Graduates constituency, Ramojigowda is the Congress candidate, while A Deve Gowda represents the BJP.

The BJP’s senior leader YA Narayanaswamy is contesting in the South East Teachers’ constituency against DT Srinivas from the Congress.

In the Karnataka South West Teachers’ constituency, SL Bhoje Gowda is the JDS candidate, and KK Manjunath represents the Congress. For the Karnataka South Teachers’ constituency, the Congress has nominated former JDS leader Maritibbegowda, competing against K Vivekananda from JDS.

With a robust voter base of 3.63 lakh in the graduates’ constituencies and 70,260 in the teachers’ constituencies, the voter turnout and preferences will be crucial. The polling is meticulously organized across 461 stations for graduates’ constituencies and 170 for teachers’ constituencies.

As the political temperature soars, all eyes are on the counting day, June 6, when the fate of these candidates will be sealed. This election is not just about winning seats but shaping the future political landscape of Karnataka.
