Chennai: The Sugarcane Breeding Institute (SBI) of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research is organizing Cane Fest, a two-day sugarcane farmers’ festival at its premises in Coimbatore on September 23 and 24.
The event has been named as Kannal Vizha in Tamil, a press release issued by ICAR-SBI Director G.Hemaprabha said here today.
The 110-year-old ICAR-Sugarcane Breeding Institute, Coimbatore in association with Society for Sugarcane Research and Development (SSRD), is organizing this event for the southern region to showcase the sugarcane technologies developed at the Institute and elsewhere for the benefit of sugarcane growers and other stakeholders.
On September 24, an interactive workshop on sugarcane mechanization will be organized, wherein sugar factory personnel, sugarcane farmers. machinery manufacturers and entrepreneurs will be sharing their experiences on mechanization initiatives, including usage of drones in sugarcane cultivation.
Over 30 stalls will be put up by various sectors including public, private, entrepreneurs, NGOs and progressive farmers, displaying new and popular sugarcane varieties and latest technological developments in sugarcane agriculture.
Seminars on important topics on sugarcane cultivation will be delivered by sugarcane experts followed by farmer-scientist-interface sessions. Farmers, farm women, rural youth, agri-preneurs, industrialists, sugar factory personnel, officers from agriculture and allied government departments, NGOs, scientists, policy makers and students from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra are expected to participate in the two-day event.
