Chandigarh: The ongoing farmers’ protest march towards Delhi has sparked widespread condemnation, with senior political figures expressing outrage over the BJP government’s handling of the situation.

Senior Congress leader Sukhpal Singh Khaira took to Twitter to denounce the government’s actions, stating, “Is this how our government should treat its farmers marching towards Delhi peacefully to press their legitimate demands pending since two years when the BJP government . made a commitment and then turned around?” Khaira emphasised the contribution of farmers to India’s food security and reminded the authorities of their sacrifice in defending the nation’s borders.

Punjab Congress President Amrinder Singh Raja Warring echoed Khaira’s sentiments, expressing solidarity with the farmers’ cause. He assured them of the Punjab Congress’s full support and readiness to assist in their struggle for justice.

Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) vehemently rejected the BJP-ruled Central Government’s demand to convert a Delhi stadium into a jail to arrest protesting farmers.

In a tweet, AAP stated, “The demands of the farmers are genuine. It’s the constitutional right of every citizen to make a peaceful protest. We cannot be parties to this decision of the Centre. Hence, approval cannot be given for converting a stadium into a jail.”

The farmers’ protest has reignited debate over agricultural reforms and the government’s handling of the issue, with tensions escalating as the march continues towards the capital.
