Bengaluru: Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna was taken into custody by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) shortly after arriving at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru from Munich on Friday.
Prajwal, 33, is facing multiple charges of sexual abuse and was taken into custody around 12:30 am. He was escorted to the CID office for interrogation.
Prajwal, who returned to Bengaluru wearing a hoodie, was taken into custody a month after the scandal first broke. Upon his arrival, he was initially taken into custody by the Central Industrial Security Forces (CISF) and subsequently handed over to the SIT.
The airport saw a significant police presence to ensure Prajwal’s safe transfer to the police station. A court warrant had been pending against him, and after completing the necessary formalities, he was officially placed under SIT custody. To ensure his security, authorities escorted him through a separate exit at the airport.
Prajwal, the grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, left the country soon after polling in his constituency concluded on April 26. This was amid the circulation of explicit video clips allegedly involving him.
The MP had been unreachable since the scandal emerged. However, on May 27, he released a video message stating he would appear before the SIT on May 31.
This high-profile case has garnered significant attention, with many watching closely to see how the investigation unfolds. The allegations against Prajwal have caused a major stir in the political arena, especially given his prominent family background and political career.
