Kyiv: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Saturday that he and former US President Donald Trump agreed during a telephone conversation to discuss in a private meeting what steps would help to reach a peace in Ukraine.

“We agreed with President Trump to discuss at a personal meeting what steps can make peace fair and truly lasting,” Zelenskyy said on his social media.

He also said that he condemned the assassination attempt on the former president that took place during his rally last Saturday.

Trump has repeatedly claimed that, if reelected, he would put a prompt end to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, adding that the conflict in Ukraine would never have started if he had been the current US president instead of Joe Biden.
