Istanbul: The Turkish Airlines flag carrier has resumed flights between Istanbul and the Lebanese capital of Beirut, the company told Sputnik.

The company suspended flights between Turkey and Lebanon in late September following the escalation of armed confrontation between the Arab country and Israel.

“The first flight from Istanbul to Beirut took place on Tuesday. Starting Friday, two flights per day between the cities are available for booking,” the company said.

Israel’s security cabinet approved the US-brokered ceasefire with Lebanon’s Hezbollah last week. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu explained that the truce was needed to focus on the alleged Iranian threat and isolate Hamas in the Gaza Strip. He emphasized that Israel would resume hostilities if Hezbollah violated the deal.

Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri called on the ceasefire monitoring committee to immediately force Israel to stop all violations and withdraw troops from Lebanese territory. The speaker accused the Israeli army of violating the ceasefire 54 times since it went into effect on November 27.
