Panjim: BJP leader and former Panjim MLA Siddharth Kunkolienkar has urged the Goa Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant to initiate investigation into the Labour Gate scam in which allegations have been put on the BJP government that it has fraudulently allotted money from the Migrant Workers Relief Fund during the COVID-19 pandemic to BJP workers.

Speaking exclusively to GoaChronicle, Founder & Editor-in-Chief, Savio Rodrigues in a telephonic conversation, Kunkolienkar, said,”These are serious allegations put on the BJP. They need to be investigated. When I has personally inquired with the concerned department on the beneficiaries of the Migrant Workers Relief Fund, I never got a clear answer from the people working in the concerned government department. Their reactions and responses were questionable and left me with a doubt of a probability of some mischief. I have urged the CM to investigate into these allegations.”

“The reported amount of Rs 5 crore disbursed by the BJP government as part of Migrants Workers Relief Fund is a considerable sum of money to be swindled by non-deserving individuals who were part of the scam; at a time when Goa does not have sufficient funds to make payments to certain departments like school teachers since December 2019. It is shameful that such scams come to light.

Goa Forward Party (GFP) – a NDA alliance partner at the Centre – has filed a petition over the Labour Gate scam allegedly running into crores of rupees with the Goa Lokayukta. GFP has alleged that the BJP government has fraudulently allotted money from the Migrant Workers Relief Fund during the COVID-19 pandemic to BJP workers.
