CBI raids Kolkata businessman

Kolkata: The anti-corruption wing of CBI on Monday raided a businessman’s house in south Kolkata in a multi-crore bank fraud case, official sources said.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team from its city office at CGO Complex in Salt Lake arrived at the industrialist house at Ranikuthi around 7.15 am and began searches after detaining the prime accused.

Owner of the Ramswaroop Industries Ashish Jhunjhunwala, who is based in Dalhousie arae has not been detained by the CBI, and the raid is in no way connected to him, a close aide of Jhunjhunwala told UNI. “He is another Ashish Jhunjhunwala.”

The businessman under probe whose house is in Tollygunj area was aided by some bankers, sources said.

The accused allegedly deceived a nationalised bank of Rs 184 crore, sources added.

A case was registered in 2020 by the bank against the industrialist for failing to repay the loan he took from the bank in phases.
