Dhaka: India High Commissioner to Bangladesh Vikram Doraiswami called on Information and Broadcasting Minister Hasan Mahmud at his Secretariat office on Monday as part of farewell call before leaving Dhaka to take up his next assignment.
Doraiswami will be leaving Dhaka shortly to take up his new assignment as the High Commissioner of India to the UK.
Senior Foreign Service Officer Pranay Kumar Verma will be replacing him in Dhaka as India’s new High Commissioner.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, High Commissioner Doraiswami expressed satisfaction at the growing cooperation between the two countries in various fields.
He pointed out that even during the Covid-19 period, the cooperation between the two countries remained high. He said the biopic on Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman ‘Mujib: The Making of a Nation’ directed by Shyam Benegal is ready and it will be released soon at a time decided by both the governments.
Dr. Hasan Mahmud said Doraiswami contributed significantly in further strengthening Bangladesh-India relationship during his tenure in Dhaka.
Referring to the recent visit of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to India, Mahmud said it was a very successful visit.
About the outcome of the visit, he pointed out that the agreement on the water-sharing of the Kushiara river was an important achievement of the visit.
Speaking about trade and connectivity related discussions and agreements during the visit of Hasina, Mahmud said Bangladesh can use the Indian ports to export goods to other countries.
