Kashmir parts received seasons first snowfall, rains lash plains

Srinagar: Parts of Kashmir valley received seasons first snowfall and upper reaches also received yet another spell while plains lashes by rains disrupting normal life on Monday.

Meteorological Centre Srinagar forecast of currently weather is overcast in most parts of J&K with snowfall over higher reaches and rain in plains of J&K. Same weather likely to prevail most part of the day, on Monday.

The weather will remain partly cloudy from November 15-18 and with light to moderate rain/snow from November 18 (night)-19. There will be no forecast of any major snow spell till November 20, the MeT office said.

Various places of Kashmir valley including, Kralpora, Pazipora, Handwara, Tangdhar in frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara and Khan Sahib in central Kashmir district of Budgam and Tangmarg received seasons first snowfall. Machhil in Kupwara received yet another spell of feet of snow on Monday.

Upper reaches of Affarwat in ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir also received fresh moderate snowfall. Reports of snowfall also received from tourist resort of Pahalgam, Chandanwari, pisso top and Peer ki Gali on Mughal road in south Kashmir and Gurez valley in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district while plains experienced rainfall.

The weather is likely to improve from afternoon today. However by the evening it could again turn wet at most places with maximum Intensity at parts of north Kashmir and some places in higher reaches can receive another 12 inches of snow, an independent weather observer Faizan Arif said.

Srinagar and its adjoining areas received rainfall overnight and it was still drizzling when this report was filed disrupting normal life.

The minimum temperature improved in Kashmir valley due to overcast sky and rainfall as ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir recorded a low of minus 1.2 degree Celsius on Monday against the minus 3.6 degree Celsius recorded a day ago.

Tourist resort of Pahalgam had a low of 0.6, Qazigund 4.5, Kukernag 4.0 and Srinagar recorded a low of 3.4 degree Celsius on Monday.
