Muslim mob pelts stones, resorts to arson as illegal madrasa is demolished in Uttarakhand’s Haldwani

On Thursday, February 8, a Muslim mob took to arson and stone pelting in Uttarakhand’s Haldwani region. Reportedly, the mob attacked the authorities who went there to demolish a madrasa, which was built on illegally encroached government land near the Banbhulpura police station. The mob pelted stones on police personnel and the workers of the Haldwani Municipal Corporation. After this, they went on to surround the police station and set fire to the vehicles stationed outside.

A transformer was also set on fire by the mob, which resulted in power outage in the area. And as the mob surrounded the Banbhulpura police station, several journalists and administration officials. During clashes with the anarchical mob, some policemen, both male and female officers, and municipal corporation workers, including the SDM, were injured.

As the mob became difficult to tackle, the police personnel took to using tear gas, in order to disperse the violent crowd, in order to curb the violence and lawlessness.

Videos and images showcasing how a frenzied mob is arguing with and attacking the police personnel on ground, setting fire to vehicles, and pelting stones on policemen, are doing the rounds on X.

With senior police and administrative officials on the ground, an additional police force has been deployed to control the situation, and Section 144 has been imposed in the area, with all the schools to remain shut. Reportedly, shoot at sight orders have also been issued for the rioters.
