Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced on Thursday that his government would provide 12 lakh government jobs and 34 lakh employment before the next state assembly elections scheduled for 2025.
Kumar announced that his government will provide 12 lakh government jobs and 34 lakh youth jobs to the state before the upcoming Bihar assembly elections in 2025, following the unfurling of the National Flag at Gandhi Maidan in Patna to mark 78th Independence Day.
He previously announced a plan to provide 10 lakh government jobs and 10 lakh youth jobs in the state.
” In last four years, 24 lakh employment had already been provided, and an additional 10 lakh employment would be provided by next year before the Bihar assembly elections,” the Chief Minister said, adding that he had earlier promised to provide 10 lakh government jobs, and 5.16 lakh government jobs had already been provided.
The recruitment process for two lakh vacant posts had also been completed, he informed. The new target of providing 12 lakh government jobs would be achieved before the Bihar assembly elections slated for October-November next year, he asserted.
Kumar said that his government had provided a 35 percent reservation to women in police service in 2013. The benefits of the reservation given to them were now visible, as the number of women cops at present in Bihar was 30,000, which was the highest in any state of the country, he added.
The Chief Minister said that when his government was voted to power in Bihar in 2005, the number of police personnel was only 42,481, which was far below the requirement. With the sustained efforts of his government, the number of police personnel had increased to 1,10,000, he informed.
Kumar said that all assistance was being made available to state police to enable them to discharge their duties to maintain law and order. More recruitments would be made by the state police to further increase the number of police personnel, he added.
The Chief Minister said that a 35 percent reservation for women was given in all government services in 2016. It had immensely helped women’s empowerment, he noted.
Kumar said that 50 percent reservation was given to women in panchayati raj institutions in 2006 and in local bodies in 2007. He pointed out that Bihar was the first state to give 50 percent reservation to women in panchayati raj and local bodies.
The Chief Minister said that his government had also taken a number of steps to protect the interests of the Muslim community. Madarsa had been given recognition, and its teachers were being given salaries on par with government school teachers, he added.
Kumar said that his government had identified 8,000 graveyards for covering with boundary walls. Construction work on all 8,000 graveyards had already been completed, and another 1,273 graveyards had been identified for the purpose, he pointed out.
Out of 1,273 newly identified graveyards, boundary walls had been constructed around 446 of them, while the process was in its last phase for the rest of the 151 graveyards. He informed and added that the process of construction of boundary walls had also been set in motion for 376 other graveyards.
The Chief Minister said that there had been reports of the theft of idols and other valuables from temples. So the government had also decided to construct boundary walls around such temples, which were 60 years old, he added.
Kumar appreciated the Narendra Modi government for providing special economic assistance to Bihar in the budget for the financial year 2024–25. Economic assistance had been given for the construction of roads and hospitals and also for promoting tourism in the state, he added.
His government had always been strongly demanding either special status for Bihar or special economic assistance for an accelerated pace of growth in the state.
Reports of Independence Day celebrations were also received from all districts of the state, where tricolors were hoisted in government offices, educational institutions, private offices, and also in offices of political parties.
