Punjab Govt sanctions Rs 71 crore for flood relief and rehabilitation

Chandigarh: The Punjab government has allocated Rs 71 crore to address the widespread devastation caused by recent floods, focusing on immediate relief and long-term recovery for affected communities, with a special emphasis on farmers who have suffered significant crop losses.

According to Revenue, Rehabilitation, and Disaster Management Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian, the state initially released Rs 35.50 crore to all districts, followed by an additional Rs 35.50 crore for 12 of the hardest-hit districts.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s administration is prioritising swift compensation and rehabilitation to support flood-affected residents.

Additional Chief Secretary Anurag Verma provided a breakdown of the additional funds: Gurdaspur receives Rs 6.5 crore, Amritsar, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Ludhiana, Patiala, and Tarn Taran get Rs 5 crore each, Pathankot Rs 4 crore, Hoshiarpur Rs 3 crore, Rupnagar Rs 2.5 crore, Bathinda, SAS Nagar, and Sri Muktsar Sahib Rs 2 crore each, Moga and Sangrur Rs 1.5 crore each, and Barnala, Faridkot, Fatehgarh Sahib, Mansa, Malerkotla, and SBS Nagar Rs 1 crore each.

Mundian reiterated the government’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, ensuring prompt aid delivery, and implementing both immediate relief and sustained rehabilitation measures to assist farmers and families impacted by the floods.
