Patna: All constituents of the ruling NDA have called for ‘Bihar Bandh’ from 7am today to protest the incident in which Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother was abused from the dais of the Voter Adhikar Yatra in Darbhanga on August 27.

Members of the women’s cells of NDA parties took to the streets in large numbers in Patna and other parts of Bihar to enforce the bandh.

In Patna, the BJP women’s cell attempted to restrict vehicle movement near the Income Tax roundabout on Bailey Road, urging people not to use vehicles until 12 noon as a mark of protest. They emphasized that insulting PM Modi’s mother was an insult to all women in the country.

All essential services, including ambulances, and the supply of medicines and milk, have been exempted from the bandh.

BJP MLC Sanjay Mayukh, sitting on the road in Patna to protest the incident, said that the people of Bihar could not tolerate such behaviour and demanded a public apology from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav.

Meanwhile, former union Minister and BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad said, “RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav will not understand the difference between targeting his own mother and abusing the mother of PM Modi. Mother of Tejashwi is a political personality, while PM Modi’s mother had nothing to do with politics. PM Modi was brought up in extremely poor conditions.”

The incident occurred during the Voter Adhikar Yatra in Darbhanga on August 27, when a person from the dais abused PM Modi’s mother. Congress leaders, however, dissociated themselves from the event, stating that no senior leader was present on the dais at the time. Both Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Prasad Yadav had already left for Muzaffarpur before the incident took place.
