New Delhi: The Supreme Court Registry Wednesday rejected Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s plea for a seven-day extension of his interim bail, paving way for his scheduled return to Tihar Jail on June 2.

The Supreme Court registry refused to accept the application saying that since the Delhi chief minister was given the liberty to move the trial court for regular bail, the plea is not maintainable.

Kejriwal had got interim bail from an apex court bench comprising Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Dipankar Datta on May 10 and was asked to surrender to Tihar on June 2.

The bench on May 17 reserved a verdict on Kejriwal’s plea challenging the validity of his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering (PMLA) case linked to the liquor scam following the formulation of a new excise policy for the national capital city.

Refusing to accept the application, the Supreme Court Registry said that since the verdict is already reserved on the challenge to arrest, Kejriwal’s plea for extension of interim bail has no relation to the main petition.

As the apex court has allowed Kejriwal to move the trial court for regular bail, this application is not maintainable, it said.
