Washington: The United States condemns the imposition of sanctions on two sitting ministers in the Israeli government imposed by the United Kingdom, Canada, and other countries, and urges their reversal, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Tuesday.

“The United States condemns the sanctions imposed by the governments of United Kingdom, Canada, Norway, New Zealand, and Australia on two sitting members of the Israeli cabinet. These sanctions do not advance U.S.-led efforts to achieve a ceasefire, bring all hostages home, and end the war,” Rubio wrote in an X post. “The United States urges the reversal of the sanctions and stands shoulder-to-shoulder with Israel.”

Earlier on Tuesday, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, and Norway imposed sanctions against Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich for “inciting violence” against Palestinians, according to a joint statement issued by the countries.

The statement accused the ministers of inciting extremist violence and serious abuses of human rights of the Palestinian people.
