On Saturday, the last day of China’s Communist Party’s four-day long summit, organized to extend the tenure of President Xi Jinping, saw high-scale drama taking place. Hu Jintao, the former President of China, who was sitting beside Jinping, was forcibly thrown out of the summit. This incident took place just moments after international media was allowed to cover the event, and a live telecast was going on.

In a one-minute video, it can be seen that in the Great Hall, the 79-year-old Jintao was sitting on Xi Jinping’s left, after which two security guards approach Hu and say something to him. Then, Hu is forced to stand up, while he could be seen unwilling to do so. Hu was then made to stand by holding his hands. Following all this, Hu can be seen saying something to President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Li Qiang. Right after this, the guards pull Hu and take him away.

It is important to see as to why Hu was thrown out of such a crucial meeting. He had transferred the position of the party general secretary to Xi Jinping after two tenures in office, and he has his own reservations about Jinping’s ambitions, and while Hu believes in the collective leadership model, Jinping wants to break this ideology, and therefore, in a way, Hu is an obstacle in Jinping’s way. With this action, Xi Jinping has probably made it clear that no one, going against him, will be spared.

The incident which took place was unusual and unprecedented, and everything happened right in front of the media. It is possible that all this was intentionally done in front of the media.
