Merely 8 days prior to his retirement, Pakistan Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa has been surrounded by the controversy which has followed the leak of the property documents. During his 6-year tenure, Bajwa was able to multiply his assets by 6 times, and his assets have been estimated to be around 457 crore rupees. This information has come to the fore, along with documentary evidence, through Fact Focus, the organization of Pakistani journalist Ahmed Noorani, who is in exile in the USA. On Monday late evening, Pakistan’s Finance Ministry ordered a probe into the document leak.

During his tenure, Bajwa garnered the most of his assets in the name of his wife, Ayesha Amjad, and his daughter-in-law, Mahnoor Sabir. The Bajwa family bought around 20 large plots in Lahore, Islamabad, Karachi, and Rawalpindi, and invested in property in many foreign countries including the USA. Bajwa also opened up an oil company, headquartered in Dubai, in the name of his wife, and in a bank in the USA, Ayesha’s account has a deposit of 41 crore rupees.

Back in October 2018, his daughter-in-law’s assets were zero, and right after getting married to Bajwa’s son, Siddique, on 2nd November, 2018, her assets rose to 248 crore rupees.
