CBI takes over HP police paper leak

Shimla: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken over the investigation into the Himachal Pradesh police constables and drivers recruitment paper leak case.

A CBI spokesperson said two FIRs were lodged at the CBI police station Shimla on November 30 accepting the plea of the Jai Ram Thakur government to take over the probe.

An interstate racket was busted on May 18.

The government decided to hand over the investigation to the CBI. The Himachal Police had lodged two cases at Gaggal in Kangra and at the CID police station in Shimla on May 5 and 7 respectively.

The consent was extended by the Central government for the CBI probe.

For 1,334 posts, a written exam was conducted on March 27 in which 75,000 candidates appeared. Similarly, for the 94 posts of drivers, examination centers were set up in 11 districts. The police decided to investigate those candidates who scored more than 65 marks out of 70.

During the investigation, the police found that Manish Kumar of Nurpur (Kangra), Mani Chaudhary of Fatehpur (Kangra). Gaurav of Kangra and several others received the question paper and answers from Gaggal, Chandigarh, Panchkula, and other places a day or two before the exam.

So far, the police arrested more than 170 people including candidates, parents and agents. The police also filed three chargesheets in the court.

The police revealed that an interstate racket was involved in question paper scam. Among the accused include residents of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Uttrakhand, Bihar and Rajasthan.
