Another Jain monk renounced his life, making an appeal of maintaining the sanctity of the Jharkhand-situated Jain pilgrimage site, Shri Sammed Shikhar. On Thursday, late at night at 1.20 AM, Muni Samarth Sagar (74), passed away, and he was the second saint to renounce his body in four days. On receiving the information of the saint renouncing his body on Friday morning, a large number of people from the Jain community reached the temple.
The monk’s last journey was carried out from the Sanghiji temple to Vidyadhar Nagar. In the Sanganer-situated Sanghiji Digambar Jain temple, monk Samarth Sagar was on a fast until death for the last three days, who had become a monk 6 years ago, after quitting his business.
Monk Shashank Sagar said that till the time the Jharkhand government will not announce Sammed Shikhar as a pilgrimage site, monks will continue to make such sacrifices. The Jain community has issued an ultimatum to the Jharkhand government till 10th January, and has said that if the direction is not followed, their struggle will continue.
On Thursday, the government had imposed restrictions on tourism on Sammed Shikhar, after which Muni Shri 108 Pramaan Sagar had appealed to end the movement as well.
