Agartala: The two-day crucial meeting of the CPI(M) state committee began here on Tuesday to finalize the election strategy including the ongoing proposition of electoral understanding with Congress in the upcoming assembly elections while AICC team headed by the party General Secretary and MP Mukul Wasnik will schedule to arrive on Wednesday to shape up the strategy.
CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury, politburo member Prakash Karat, Manik Sarkar, and all other top leaders of the party attended the meeting. The party’s state secretariat meeting ahead of the state committee meeting was held on Monday night.
Party insiders said that a formal discussion on the electoral understanding with Congress for the assembly poll slated for next month would be held during the two-day meeting, which will also decide the CPI(M)’s stand on seat sharing with Congress and others as well as finalize the candidate lists.
“Earlier, after the preliminary discussion among the top leaders, CPI(M) state secretary Jitendra Chowdhury had announced that his party doesn’t have any reservations to strike an alliance with any non-BJP party to prevent the saffron party from forming the next government in Tripura. Congress has also made a similar appeal to non-BJP parties to be united to fight against BJP. Therefore, electoral understanding is certain but the discussion is going on about seat sharing,” said a senior CPI(M) leader.
There has been a move from both CPI(M) and Congress to bring Trinamool and TIPRA Motha on board for seat sharing to fight the election unitedly against BJP. But as of now, it has not formed although BJP is claiming to take Motha along with them against CPI(M) and Congress.
Meanwhile, TIPRA Motha supremo Pradyot Kishore Debbarman made it clear that no way they will not forge an alliance with any party unless they would not get written assurance of their Greater Tipraland demand.
However, Chowdhury said besides election issues the two-day meeting would discuss the present situation of the state where common people have no security of life and property under BJP’s rule.
The employees, unemployed youths, farmers, workers, and women have been facing problems and became the worst sufferers in the hands of BJP because of violence, crime, relentless corruption
and pro-rich policies and if they returned the situation will be disastrous, he added.
