Asia’s longest Ultra-cycling race flagged off from Srinagar

Srinagar: Asia’s longest Ultra-Cycling Race from Srinagar to Kanyakumari was flagged off from Srinagar on Wednesday.

Divisional Commissioner Vijay Kumar Bidhuri flagged off the race in presence of Jammu and Kashmir Sports council officials at Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar.

Bidhuri said there are different activities by which people achieve their name and cycling is one of them.

“If you have passion, whatever you want can achieve nothing, nothing will stop you”, he told media persons.

He said the youth of Jammu and Kashmir is ahead in sports and the weather is helping them all the way.

The first of its kind 3651 Km long race with total elevation gain of 1895 mts started from Srinagar and will end in the Southern tip of the Indian Peninsula, Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu.

It will pass the route of the longest Indian highway, NH44 and passes through 12 states and three metropolises and over 20 major cities.

The Cycle race is recognized by World Ultra Cycling Association, USA and declared as the Asian Ultra Cycling Championship & World Ultra Cycling Championship, the officials said.

The participant’s will peddle in Solo, Team of 2, Team of 4 with cut-off time of 12 days 10 days and 8 days respectively.

The Joint Secretary said that all the arrangements for safe and successful events have been made including security and assistance teams.

He said all the riders will be supported by their respective crew members and support vehicles to finish the race.

The Solo riders are Dr Amrit Samarth, Sahil Sachdeva, Sumer Bansal, Dhiraj Kalsait, Shubham Das, Mahesh Kini, Atul Kadu, Vikram Uniyal, Manish Saini, Indrajeet Vardhan, Geeta Rao and Amoeba Ravindra Reddy.

The teams include Maha Cycling Squad, Maharashtra Police, ADCA and Amravati Riders.
