Top players in title clash at 6th AITA Tabebuia Open

Bengaluru: The top seeds in both the men’s and women’s singles ended the dream run of their respective challengers to storm into the finals of the 6th AITA Tabebuia Open Wheelchair Tennis tournament, held under the aegis of KSLTA and being held at the Padukone Dravid Centre for Sports Excellence here on Friday.

Top seed K Karthik of Tamil Nadu overcame fourth seed S Balachander 6-1, 6-4 to set up a summit clash against second seed Shekar Veeraswamy of Karnataka who quashed the hopes of giant killer DA Anil with a 6-3, 6-3 victory.

In the women’s category the top two seeds Shilpa KP and Prathima Rao blanked their respective opponents Shilpa K and Mubina K to set up a title tilt.

Later the namesakes joined hands to win the doubles title.

Men’s singles

1-K Karthik (TN) bt 4-S Balachander 6-1, 6-4; 2-Shekar Veeraswamy bt DA Anil 6-3, 6-3.

Women’s singles

1-Shilpa KP bt Shilpa K 6-0, 6-0; 2-Prathima Rao bt Mubina K 6-0, 6-0.

Women’s doubles final

1-Shilpa K/Shilpa KP bt 2- Mubina K/Prathima Rao 6-2, 7-5.
