New Delhi/Addis Ababa: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday made a short visit to the Ethiopian capital during which he held talks with the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Ethiopia Demeke Mekonnen Hassen.

In a tweet, the EAM said he had a good meeting with his Ethiopian counterpart during which they shared views on multilateral cooperation.

“A good meeting with DPM and FM @DemekeHasen during a short Addis Ababa transit.

“Welcomed his perspective on developments in the region. Also shared views on our strong multilateral cooperation, including in the AU and United Nations.”

The EAM stopped over in Addis Ababa on way to Mozambique, on the second leg of his two-nation official tour that earlier took him to Uganda.

Earlier, before leaving Kampala, the EAM interacted with the Indian community in Kampala.

In a tweet, he said he was “Energized by the warmth of their welcome”.

He said their contribution to Uganda and India-Uganda relationship “makes us all proud”.

He also paid homage at a statue of Mahatma Gandhi, and said that Gandhiji’s ashes immersed in the Nile “reflects the universality of his message and also his deep and abiding bond with Africa”.
