Railway Board recommends CBI probe into Balasore train accident

On Sunday, June 4, the Railway Board recommended a CBI inquiry into the Balasore train tragedy, involving the Chennai Coromandel Express, the Yashwantpur-Howrah Express, and a goods train, which took place in the evening on June 2. A total of 1175 people were injured, while another 275 have lost their lives in this major accident.

Talking to the media on Sunday evening in Bhubaneswar, Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said, “Keeping in mind, all the administrative information which has been received till now, the Railway Board has recommended that the future investigation and inquiry into the matter should be handed over to the CBI”.

In the meantime, the restoration work is going on in full swing, and all the possible support is also being given to the injured patients, by the Centre and the state government of Odisha, who are admitted in various hospitals in Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, and Balasore. Regarding this, Vaishnaw said, “Patients are being given all the facilities in the hospitals, and there are teams of doctors which are taking care of the patients round the clock”.

“We are trying to get in touch with the families of the dead”, added the minister.
