Landfall process of Very Severe Cyclonic Storm ‘Biparjoy to begin shortly : IMD

New Delhi: The landfall process of the Very Severe Cyclonic Storm “Biparjoy” (pronounced as “Biporjoy”) over Northeast Arabian Sea will begin shortly.

The Cyclonic storm moved east-northeastward with a speed of 6 kmph during the past 6 hours and lay centered about 100 km west-southwest of Jakhau Port (Gujarat), 150 km west-northwest of Devbhumi Dwarka, 130 km west-southwest of Naliya and 230 km south-southeast of Karachi (Pakistan).

India Meteorological Department (IMD) in a bulletin a short while ago said the landfall process will commence from this evening and continue till midnight.

It is very likely to move northeastwards and cross Saurashtra & Kutch and adjoining Pakistan coasts between Mandvi (Gujarat) and Karachi (Pakistan) near Jakhau Port (Gujarat) by tonight, as a very severe cyclonic storm with maximum sustained wind speed of 115-125 kmph gusting to 140 kmph.

The bulletin said, ‘The wall cloud region of the Cyclone is touching the Saurashtra Coast.’

The landfall area will be at Saurashtra & Kutch and adjoining Pakistan Coasts, the bulletin added.
