New Delhi: Due to the severe heatwave conditions in the national capital, the Delhi government has advised the private and government-aided schools in the city to close for summer vacation until June 30.

In a circular released on Monday, the Directorate of Education directed all the schools to observe summer vacation from May 11 to June 30 for this academic year.

“It has been observed that some of the government-aided and unaided-recognized private schools are still open during ongoing severe heat waves,” the department said, adding that all the heads of government-aided and unaided-recognised private schools in Delhi are advised to close the school with immediate effect.

In recent days, the national capital has seen a steady rise in temperature. On Monday, with 47.4 degrees Celsius, the city recorded the highest maximum temperature in the country.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for severe heatwave conditions over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and northwest Madhya Pradesh for the next three days.
