Bengaluru: The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association in Bengaluru has strongly condemned the recent inflammatory remarks made by Faheem Firdous Qureshi, a Kashmiri youth, on the social media platform X.

Nasir Khuehami, National Convenor of the Association, emphasised that such actions are unacceptable and undermine the ethos of unity in our diverse and democratic nation. He condemned Qureshi’s objectionable posts, highlighting their divisive nature and the harm they cause to social harmony.

Acknowledging the seriousness of Qureshi’s actions, the Association expressed concerns over the potential long-term consequences for his academic and professional future.

Khuehami urged all Kashmiri students to refrain from contributing to online rhetoric that could exacerbate tensions.

Qureshi, employed at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC), was apprehended by Bangalore police on June 19 under IPC Sections 505 and 153B. He was subsequently remanded to police custody for two days after appearing in court.

The Association advised Kashmiri students studying outside the region to prioritise peace and harmony. Khuehami reiterated the importance of focusing on education and cautioned against jeopardising careers through impulsive social media activities.

In a plea directed at Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Ummar Jamal, National General Secretary of the Association, appealed for leniency in Qureshi’s case. Jamal advocated for rehabilitation measures instead of punitive action, emphasising the transformative potential of support and guidance for youth.

He urged dropping charges against Qureshi and facilitating his reintegration into society. Jamal stressed the need for reconciliation and second chances, highlighting education as pivotal to fostering positive futures for young individuals.
