Portfolios to the newly sworn-in ministers in J&K

Srinagar: Days after the government formation, Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha assigned portfolios to the newly sworn-in ministers.

Surinder Kumar Choudhary, Deputy Chief Minister, has been assigned Public Works (R&B), Industries & Commerce, Mining, Labour & Employment, and Skill Development departments.

Sakeena Itoo will manage Health & Medical Education, School Education, Higher Education, and Social Welfare.

Javed Ahmed Rana has been given charge of Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology & Environment, and Tribal Affairs.

Javid Ahmad Dar will be responsible for Agriculture Production, Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, Cooperative, and Election.

Satish Sharma will handle Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Transport, Science & Technology, Information Technology, Youth Services & Sports, and ARI & Trainings.

The LG assigned the charge to the ministers in pursuance of Rule 4 (2) of the Transaction of Business of the Government of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir Rules, 2019.

The order also stated that any other departments or subjects not allocated to these ministers will remain with the Chief Minister.

Omar Abdullah was sworn in as the first Chief Minister of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, He choose five ministers for his cabinet—two from Kashmir and three from Jammu. Omar previously led the government of Jammu and Kashmir from 2008 to 2014, when the region was a full-fledged state and held special status under Article 370.
