Kolkata: West Bengal ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) and its main rival the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have announced their respective party candidates for November 13 byelection to six Assembly seats, official sources said on Monday.

The Mamata Banerjee-led TMC in a release said Sangita Roy will contest from Sitai (SC), Jay Prakash Toppo from Madarihat (ST), Falguni Singhababu from Taldangra, Sujoy Hazra from Midnapore (West Midnapore district), Sk. Rabiul Islam from Haroa, and Sanat Dey from Naihati.

The BJP named Deepak Kumar Roy from Sitai, Rahul Lohar from Madarihat, Rupak Mitra from Naihati and Bimal Das from Haroa.

Suvojit Roy will contest the byelection from Midnapore and Ananya Roy Chowdhury from
Taldangra.

The ruling TMC won five seats in the 2021 Assembly polls, and BJP won Madarihat.

The bypoll is necessitated due to the resignations of sitting MLAs of the six segments following their victory in this year’s Lok Sabha election.

The Left and Congress are yet to announce their candidates for the coming by-poll.

Counting will take place on November 13.
