Police arrest Prashant Kishor staging fast unto death in support of BPSC aspirants

Patna: Police arrested “Jan Suraaj ” founder Prashant Kishor, popular as PK, on Monday early morning who was on fast unto death dharna in support of BPSC aspirants’ demands for re-examination of 70th Preliminary Test of the commission.

Police said here that two FIRs were instituted against PK at Gandhi Maidan police station for staging dharna in the restricted area and for obstructing the government functioning.PK was arrested along with his supporters.

Soon after the police swung into action at 5:00 a.m. on Monday, the supporters of PK resisted the police move. However, the security personnel took Prashant Kishore in an ambulance. The police said that PK would be produced before the court during the day.

PK along with his thousands of supporters was continuing on his fast unto death dharna since January 2 in support of the demands of the BPSC aspirants for reexamination.

As it is the BPSC aspirants were protesting by organising sit-ins at Patna’s Gardanibagh area since December 18, against the alleged series of irregularities, malpractices including paper leak in the 70th PT of BPSC.

The protestors were brutally baton charged and sprayed water through canons on the spine chilling night of December 29 in the state capital. Lathi charge was also resorted on the students marching towards the BPSC office on December 25 in the state capital.

A delegation of the aspirants had also called on the chief secretary and handed over him a memorandum in support of their demand.

The sit-in dharna of the BPSC aspirants were still continuing at the notified area in Gardanibagh. Some of the prominent teachers were also supporting the agitation.

Several leaders belonging to the RJD, Congress, left parties and an independent heavyweight MP from Purnia Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav expressing their solidarity towards the BPSC aspirants had demonstrated in the state capital and had also called on the Governor on the issue.
