Lucknow: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Monday broke their five-match losing streak with a crucial victory, sparking relief and renewed hope within the franchise and among its legions of fans.

The win, achieved through a composed batting performance led by Shivam Dube and a disciplined bowling effort, comes as a much-needed respite after a series of uncharacteristic defeats.

Speaking after the match, all-rounder Shivam Dube expressed the significance of the win, stating, “This means a lot, losing five games in a row that is not CSK.”

He lauded the performance of the CSK bowling unit, highlighting their disciplined effort in restricting the opposition. “Our bowlers bowled really well today,” he acknowledged.

Dube himself played a pivotal role in the victory, hitting an unbeaten 43 and guiding the team towards the target.

Reflecting on his innings, he revealed his determined mindset.

“Today I had wanted to stay till the end, and I had this thought that I wanted to finish the game,” he said.

He explained his calculated approach during the innings, particularly after a few wickets fell in the middle overs.

“I felt this is the time to take the game very deep after losing a few wickets in the middle,” Dube elaborated. He clarified that his strategy wasn’t solely about aggression. “It’s not about the mindset, and it is about playing according to the situation, which is why instead of attacking, I felt taking the game deep was a better option.”

Dube also shed light on his batting plan against a disciplined bowling attack. “My plan was very simple, which is not to try and hit the ball very hard because the bowlers were executing very well.”

He was ably supported by veteran M S Dhoni, who provided the finishing touches in his trademark style.

Looking ahead, Dube stressed the importance of carrying the positives from this victory into their subsequent matches, particularly their upcoming clash against rivals Mumbai Indians.

“Taking positives from this game to the next game is very important,” he concluded.

While this victory is a significant morale booster, CSK still faces an uphill battle in the league standings.

However, breaking the losing streak provides a foundation for a potential turnaround as they head into the crucial phase of the tournament.
