Lucknow: Banking Correspondent Sakhi scheme has empowered rural women and transformed banking in Uttar Pradesh by bringing financial services right to the villagers’ doorsteps, official sources said here on Tuesday.

Sources said that under the scheme, 50,192 women have been trained to deliver doorstep banking in the state, of which 39,561 are actively serving villages, boosting both financial access and women’s employment.

Sources said that these women have collectively facilitated transactions worth Rs 31,626 crore, earning a combined commission of Rs 85.81 crore. “The scheme, introduced under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, aims to empower women by providing them with sustainable livelihoods while ensuring last-mile banking access in underserved rural communities” they said.

Sources said that eligible candidates, at least Class 10 pass and computer literate, are selected and trained under the scheme. “The programme is being implemented in collaboration with Bank of Baroda, UCO Bank and UPICON,” they said.

Sources said that this scheme has made banking easier in villages by reducing the need to travel to distant banks and cutting down related expenses. “At the same time, it has given women a respectful means of earning. It is proving to be a strong step towards building a self-reliant UP,” they said.

Sources said that rural customers are the biggest beneficiaries of the scheme, who now enjoy easy access to banking services at their doorstep. “Earlier, villagers had to spend time and money to visit banks for basic transactions, now, those costs are being saved,” they said.

Sources said that so far, 50,192 BC Sakhis in the state’s Gram Panchayats have completed certification through RSETI and IIBF. “This policy of the state government is helping women in rural areas become self-dependent and financially empowered,” they said.
