Civil societies of Manipur assure peace : Amit Shah

Imphal: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday said he held a meeting with a group of women leaders (Meira Paibi) in Manipur and reiterated the significance of the role of women in the society of Manipur.

In a social network platform, he said, “Held a meeting with a group of women leaders (Meira Paibi) in Manipur. Reiterated the significance of the role of women in the society of Manipur. Together, we are committed to ensuring peace and prosperity in the state.”

He further said, “Had a fruitful discussion with the members of the different Civil Society Organizations today in Imphal. They expressed their commitment to peace and assured that we would together contribute to paving the way to restore normalcy in Manipur.”

He held a series of talks since his arrival here on Monday to resolve the conflict in Manipur which has been raging since May 3 last.

After arrival he discussed the situation with Governor Anusuiya Uiyke and Chief Minister of Manipur N Biren Singh, Cabinet ministers and officials.

State official said the Governor met cross sections of the society including leaders of various women organizations, civil societies, and eminent personalities. The decision of the joint meetings between central and state leaders and officials was to restore normalcy and bring peace to the State at the earliest.

It was decided to take necessary action to improve the law-and-order situation and build confidence among the public, state information office said.

It was also decided to expedite relief measures and make essential items like petrol, LPG gas, rice and other daily requirements available to the common people.

For all those who died, Rs 10 lakhs compensation , Rs.5.00 lakh to be borne by the State and Rs.5.00 lakh by Central government and a job to the next of kin will be provided. Telephone lines with the help of BSNL will be installed to dispel rumours. Amit Shah will also visit some places to meet the affected people.
