New Delhi: The Congress on Wednesday took a swipe at the BJP-led government at the Centre over various issues including Hindenburg Research Report on Adani group, disqualification of Rahul Gandhi from Lok Sabha as a member and unemployment.

“The fight of two ideologies is going on in India. The government is not allowing the Parliament to function. New Parliament building is being constructed. Democracy can not become strong only by constructing a big building,” Congress leader Anand Sharma said while attacking the ruling BJP in an apparent reference to the recently concluded Budget Session of Parliament.

Referring to Opposition’s demand for Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe on Adani issue, the MP said, “Had earlier PMs not constituted JPC. The first JPC was formed during Rajiv Gandhi’s tenure on ‘Bofors’. In the previous government, the Opposition demanded JPC on 2G (spectrum case) and it was constituted. In the VVIP helicopter scam, JPC was constituted .”

The Hindenburg Research report alleged the Adani Group had engaged in stock manipulation and accounting fraud schemes over the course of decades.

The Congress has been demanding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi disclose to the public about his relationship with billionaire businessman Gautam Adani since the Hindenburg report surfaced and also accused the PM of protecting him.

On Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification, the former Union Minister said, “The way the judgement came on Rahul Gandhi ji. Then, with lightning speed to disqualify him, has not sent a good message.”

Taking a dig at the government on the unemployment issue, Sharma said, “The unemployment rate in the country is 8 per cent. The unemployment rate is 42 per cent in between the age group of 20-24.”

“This is a serious challenge. What steps is the government taking to tackle this? ,” asked.
