Parties contesting the elections in Tamil Nadu are:
AIADMK-BJP alliance
DMK-Congress Alliance
AIADMK-BJP alliance which includes BJP, PMK, Tamil Maanila Congress and other smaller parties and the DMK-Congress Alliance includes Left parties, Congress, MDMK, VCK and other parties.
MNM (Makkal Needhi Maiyam) founded by Kamal Hassan and led by Kamal Hassan.
The Tamil Nationalist Party Naam Thamizhar and T.T.V Dinakaran’s party, nephew of Sasikala AMMK (Amma Makkal Munetra Kazhagam) are also contesting.
A single phase elections in Tamil Nadu for 234 assembly seats, 140 Kerala Assembly seats, and 30 seats for Puducherry. The Polls in Tamil Nadu in a single phase were held in 6thAprill in all 38 districts. Votes will be taken up on 2nd May 2021.
According to reports during the poll campaigns in Tamil Nadu DMK and its allies targeted the AIADMK by calling the party an extension of BJP. Both parties levelled allegations against each other. It has also been noted that the allied parties did not campaign together. There has been a seat-sharing issue between both the parties along with their alliances. Where BJP was looking for more seats, AIADMK gave BJP 20 seats.
DMK raised corruption allegations against the AIADMK-BJP alliance and said that they were causing hindrance for the basic supplies to reach the public.
The number of Voters in Tamil Nadu had more Women voters which are 3.18 crore while men being lesser in numbers with 3.8 crores and over 7200 trans genders voted out of 6.28 crore people who are eligible to vote. A total number of 3998 candidates contesting the elections for the Tamil Nadu assembly elections.

Chief Minister K Palaniswami from Edappadi Assembly constituency, Deputy chief Minister O Panneerselvam from the Bodinayakkanur constituency, DMK President MK Stalin from the Kolathur constituency, MK Stalin’s son Udhayanidhi Stalin from Chepauk-Tiruvalliken constituency, former leader of AIADMK, TTV Dhinakaran from AMMK, from Kovilpatti assembly constituency- actor-turned politicians and Makkal Needhi Maiam founder Kamal Haasan contesting from Coimbatore South, Naam Tamizhar Katchi leader Seeman from Thiruvottiyur and BJP state unit chief L Murugan from Dharapuram and BJP’s Khushboo Sundar from Thousands Lights constituency.
The prediction of the exit poll shows a win for the DMK-Congress Alliance under MK Stalin would be returning to power after 10 years.
This was the first election in Tamil Nadu since the demise of J. Jayalalithaa the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. J. Jayalalithaa served 4 times as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for 15 years.
Agenda of the Elections
AIADMK-BJP alliance revealed a 163-point manifesto for the 6th April assembly polls, announcing several benefits for the people of Tamil Nadu.
Some of the key points in the manifesto:
-Women working with the government would get maternity leave of up to 9 months to one year.
-Home Delivery of ration to be given to all benefices through Public Distribution outlets.
-Educational Loans to be waived off to protect the interest of students and parents. The criteria are unknown.
-Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu has launched a scheme under which more than nine lakh students studying in government institutes of art & science, polytechnic colleges, engineering colleges will get 2GB data free per day.
-AIADMK rolled out a crop loan waiver scheme of Rs12,110 crore for the farmers and handed them the certificates.
Kamal Hassan, founder of MNM (Makkal Needhi Maiam) did an electoral campaign in Tamil Nadu where the agenda was to provide women with equal opportunities for them to be entrepreneurs and to empower them. MNM promised salary to Home-makers stating home-makers have been unrecognized and unmonetized.
Thulam Saravanan, an independent candidate from Madurai South constituency speaking to a news channel said that he would give an annual deposit of 1crore, a mini-helicopter, and a trip to the moon to the public by mocking politicians for offering freebies to people. The reason behind him saying this was to make people aware of politicians who were just trying to lure the public and said he wants people to choose good candidates who are humble and ordinary people.
The next Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu
After the extensive polling in Tamil Nadu and according to the ‘Protect Core Exit Poll’ DMK’s win would make MK Stalin the next Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
