People come to Goa for fun. Goa sees a huge number of good tourists, family tourists, and well-behaved tourists but there is no denying that some come for the alcohol and a chance to get drunk, some come for the drugs and a chance to get stoned, and some come for the escorts and chance to get laid. But that is not all about Goa, it is a very very small part of Goa.
Goa is a paradise. Often a paradise is mistaken as a destination where you can live out your wildest fantasies. Goa is not a sin city.
Recently, a purported video from Goa, showing a girl driving a car topless and feeling herself went viral. In fact, a search on Google will throw up a disturbing fact that the video has made it to porn sites with the title ‘Sexy Indian Wife Topless Driving on Goa Streets’.
That a girl who wants to drive nude and feel herself up while driving is her choice. That a person making the video and then allowing it to go viral is again their personal choice. However, their personal choice becomes untenable in a public space. Therefore, whoever she is she must be brought to book.
However, the real concern is the callous attitude of such carefree people, who may think Goa is paradise but actually treat it like it is a brothel. Importantly though, nudity is not permissible in Goa.
There are stories in hush-tones that talk about certain beaches in Goa being nude beaches. There could be cases where some carefree tourists might remain nude on the beaches in some secret locations but to consider all of Goa to be one nude-party destination is an insult to us all as Goans.
In November 2020, model and actor Milind Soman posted a picture of himself on social media, which showed him running naked on a beach. Of course, he was charged with obscenity.
Nudity has been a part of the hush-hush stories of Goa for decades. But it cannot become a reason for the decadence of Goa. The beaches of Goa are not nude beaches and they will never be promoted as beaches that accept nudity. It is not a part of Goa’s culture. There is is absolute truth in the fact that the foreign hippies that came to Goa brought with them their free-thinking behavior and nudity. They flocked to Goa for pleasure both in sex and drugs, but, that was not the intrinsic culture of Goa, even as a colony of the Portuguese.
Porn sites have been using Goa as a backdrop destination to promote their services over the last decade. Videos and photographs shot in some hotels or rooms in Goa are all over the internet. There is no doubt that Goa attracts pleasure seekers. When confined and consented within one’s hotel room without it being a nuisance to others, it is not legal but when it becomes a public nuisance, then it ought to be stopped and strict laws must be brought in place to keep a check on such public behavior.
I remember some years back when I was traveling from Delhi to Goa. I met a bunch of tourists, excited about coming to Goa. The group were all men in their early 40s. They wanted to know about the good massage parlors and places where they could get some hot action in Goa. I, of course, being a Goan, was very hospitable to them. So I shared with them the number of a senior cop from Goa, known to be quite reputed in the field of bodily massages of a different kind. I am sure many would think that it was extremely rude of me, but, then many tourists forget that Goa is our home.
Goa is a paradise but it is not a brothel where tourists come here to live their wildest fantasies. Goa is our home. It is a place where our women and children live and grow. We have no aversion to tourists and we have time again exhibited our hospitable nature but it is unfair for demented tourists to pollute Goa with their depravity and perversion.
The video of the girl driving nude in Goa may have been fun for her and her friend to record the video and share it online and on other porn sites but it puts Goa in a bad light. And Goa is not about girls driving around nude or walking the beaches nude. It is about good tourism, where people can enjoy paradise without being forced to see perverse specimens driving around Goan roads nude in their cars.
