Hubballi: A 10-year-old boy, who jumped the security cordon in an attempt to garland Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his roadshow, has said he is PM’s fan and wanted to shake his hands with him.

As PM Modi was waving his hands to the onlookers beyond the barricade, a boy suddenly jumped over the barricade and ran towards PM Modi with an intention to garland him but was pushed by the Special Protection Group personnel before the traffic police whisked him away.

“I had come along with my uncle and friends. We stopped at the new bus stand where PM Modi’s cavalcade would pass. We had dressed a two-and-a-half-year-old child in RSS uniform and wanted him to garland the PM, but he did not see us. There was a gap between the barricades and I jumped near Modi’s car with the garland, but was stopped by security personnel,” Kunal S Dongri said.

PM Modi was in the city to inaugurate the 26th National Youth Festival.

“The security personnel took the garland and gave it to PM Modi. I also managed to touch Modi’s left hand. I feel happy about it. I was not scared. All I wanted to do was to garland him and shake hands with him,” Kunal said.

Asked whether he was a Modi fan, Kunal said, “I do not see as a human being, but as a God.” He said that he had once seen Modi in Hubballi when he was 8-year-old and since then he wanted to see the Prime Minister closely. “If I get a chance to speak with PM Modi, I would invite him to my house and would like to spend some time with him,” Kunal stated.

Meanwhile, Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissioner Raman Gupta dismissed claims of security lapse by saying that the boy had no malafide intention.

“It cannot be said it was a security breach. Because, all people were frisked before allowing them. The boy is Modi’s fan and wanted to garland him. There was no malafide intentions from his side,” he said.
