On Thursday, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, was attacked. Khan, who has been vocal against the Pakistani army after being removed from power, is taking out a long march for Islamabad, as a part of which, Imran’s rally had reached Gujranwala on Thursday. During the rally, Khan was greeting people, from the roof of a container, along with some other leaders, that was when a man fired in Khan’s direction multiple times, and one of the bullets then hit his leg. Two other bullets hit another leader. A total of 9 people were injured in the firing, and one lost his life.

A man, who was standing behind the assailant, grabbed him and gave him to the police. The attacker, in police custody, said that Imran was misleading people, and had committed blasphemy, and that was why he wanted to kill him. Imran, who is admitted in a hospital is out of danger. In the meanwhile, his party, PTI, has alleged that this attack was made on the behest of PM Shahbaz Sharif and three other influential people.

Imran has been targeting the Pakistani army, which is unprecedented as no other big political leader has ever attacked the army till now, and in the wake of this opposition, the army is apprehensive of losing its power, because Imran has become popular. Recently, during the bi-elections, Imran’s party, despite being in the opposition, won 22 out of 25 seats, which has never happened before.

After the incident, the supporters of Imran Khan went out into the streets in protest late at night, committed arson, and raised slogans. They targeted offices and officers as well.
