New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi called upon the people to protect and preserve biodiversity, saying, “Every species plays a vital role. Let’s safeguard their future for generations to come.”

The Prime Minister made these remarks today as “World Wildlife Day” is being celebrated today to raise awareness about the importance of wildlife and biodiversity.

In a social media post, he said, “Today, on #WorldWildlifeDay, let’s reiterate our commitment to protect and preserve the incredible biodiversity of our planet. Every species plays a vital role—let’s safeguard their future for generations to come.’

“We also take pride in India’s contributions towards preserving and protecting wildlife,” he wrote.

In 2025, World Wildlife Day will be celebrated under the critical theme of “Wildlife Conservation Finance: Investing in People and Planet.” The year 2025 will also coincide with the 50th anniversary of the entry into force of CITES.

Sharing the same sentiments, Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav also urged to safeguard the vibrant biodiversity and said, as custodians of Planet Earth, it is incumbent upon us to safeguard every species for generations to come.

“On World Wildlife Day, I urge everyone to reiterate our shared commitment to protect and preserve the vibrant biodiversity we have been bestowed with. Every species plays a vital role in Earth’s ecosystem, and, as custodians of Planet Earth, it is incumbent upon us to safeguard their future for generations to come. Warm wishes on #WorldWildlifeDay” he wrote on X.

India is part of several global biodiversity hotspots, such as the Western Ghats, the Himalayan region, and the Indo-Burma region. These areas are rich in unique species of plants, animals, and ecosystems, and are crucial for maintaining global biodiversity.

India has established an extensive network of protected areas, including national parks, wildlife sanctuaries, and conservation reserves.
