Yoga is an ancient Indian practice, which involves movement of the body and cleansing of the mind. Yoga is great for maintaining flexibility of the muscles and strengthening of the bones, it helps in improving immunity, reducing stress and building balance.

In recent times we come across more and more people complaining of issue related to their health, a major chunk of this comes from our lifestyle. People nowadays are so engrossed in the rut of life, to do well at that job of theirs, to get into the competition of being an overachiever or to plainly try and juggle everything that life throws at them, while all of these things are great ways of thriving and getting inches closer to one’s life goals, an important aspect tends to take a back seat, our health!!

So here is what we can do about this sad state of affairs going on with our well-being…

As BKS Iyengar beautifully once said “Yoga is like music. The rhythm of the body, the melody of the mind and the harmony of the soul create the symphony of life”

Imagine having treasured gold right next to you, and your mind is still trying to figure where all the gold is after all, that gold is Yoga and what if someone told you it is not just the gold, it comes along with gems too!!

Our ancient findings and practices, something that’s so precious that makes it an heirloom. The world is now understanding the benefits of yoga and trying to trademark it, that is the power that it holds, it is so meticulously designed and has numerous health benefits.

Suryanamaskar or Sun salutation is a powerful and a rather effective method and has various positives to it.

Weight-loss, Glowing skin and hair, a better digestive system, a regular menstrual cycle, maintained blood sugar levels, reduced levels of stress and anxiety, ensured body detox, boosts in the immunity graph and better sleep, all of this sounds like an ultimate package one needs in today’s day and age to conquer the world well, if not that then to at least be able to enjoy a healthy life

A series of postures or asans make this magical dream possible. There is more than one way to do this flow however, the most effective and oldest form exists by the name of “the traditional suryanamaskar” flow. This flow comprises of 12 main asans repeated on each side; left and right. Experts say 108 suryanamaskars makes a mala which means one entire cycle. It is important to consider that everybody is different and in a different phase as well, performing 108 suryanamaskars is not a possibility for all, but one needs to start somewhere to experience and feel the changes that come along with practicing yoga and suryanamaskars.

They are known to burn almost 140 calories in a 10-minute regime; however, one needs to take into account the fact that there is a catch to this, all asans need to be done in a sequence, with correct postures and the right kind of breath work else they will not serve the purpose. These yoga poses in suryanamaskar stretch and strengthen the muscles of our body at the same time. If practiced without incomplete awareness one might end up getting injured. Not just that it also aids in charging the five out of seven of our chakras, helps us in remaining more focused.

People who have practiced suryanamskars on a regular basis have experienced actual changes in their body and overall well-being, it is easier to focus and be more productive, the back becomes stronger making it easier of one to hold their posture erect the entire time, accompanied by many other benefits.

Ministry of AYUSH, in the year 2022 as a tribute to 75 years of independence encouraged citizens to perform 75 crore suryanamaskars. This initiative was supported by the FIT India movement and even Indian Council for Cultural Relations and it is great to see those 36 states and UTs and over 50 lakh students participated in this initiative.

Such initiatives not only keep citizens hail and hearty but are also ways in which people can be made aware of this precious gift from our ancient sages.
