Srinagar: Three militants were killed as security forces foiled an infiltration bid in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, the Army said.

The infiltrators were killed in an encounter that erupted in a forward area close to the Line of Control (LoC) at Hathlanga Uri.

The Army said the bid was foiled in the morning hours in a joint operation by the Indian Army, J&K Police, and intelligence agencies.

The Army said three terrorists who tried to infiltrate were engaged by alert troops, and the bodies of two have been recovered.

They said the third terrorist was also killed, but retrieval of the body was being interfered with by firing by Pakistani posts in the vicinity on the LoC, the Army said.

They said the operation is still in progress.

“In a joint operation launched by the Indian Army, @JmuKmrPolice, and intelligence agencies, an infiltration bid was foiled today in the morning hours along the LoC in Uri Sector, #Baramulla. 3 Terrorists tried to infiltrate troops who were engaged by alert troops. 2 Terrorists have been eliminated and bodies recovered; the third terrorist has been killed, but retrieval of body is being interfered with by firing by Pak posts in the vicinity, on the LoC,” the Army’s Srinagar-based Chinar Corps said in a post on X. “Operation in progress,” they added.

The infiltration bid was foiled at a time when a massive anti-militancy operation is underway in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district to neutralise two to three Laskar-e-Taiba militants, killing two Army officers and a Deputy Superintendent of Police. The operation at Garol in the Kokarnag forest area, now in its fourth day, resumed on Saturday.

On late Friday, Additional Director General of Police, Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, said, “All two-three trapped terrorists will be neutralised.”
