Panaji: As many as eight Congress MLAs are likely to join Bharatiya Janata Party in Goa.

According to sources, Alton D’Costa, Goa Congress Working President Yuri Alemao and Advocate Carlos Ferreira, however, are not a part of the group.

Those who are likely to join the ruling party include former Chief Minister Digambar Kamat and former Leader of Opposition Michael Lobo.

In the 40 member state assembly, Congress has 11 MLAs.

The split would be major setback to the Congress which had emerged as a principal opposition party post assembly elections held in February this year while it will boost ruling Bharatiya Janata Party which has started preparation for 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
