Srinagar: The Army said on Monday that the weather condition was very difficult during the counter infiltration operation undertaken on Sunday in Machil sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district in which two infiltrators were killed.

The operation was conducted at Tekri Nar close to the Line of Control (LOC) by the Army and police. An army officer said the infiltrators tried to take advantage of the bad weather conditions to sneak into Kashmir.

Brigadier Vinod Negi, commander of Machil Brigade, said the operation took place in an area which was rugged and mountainous and had thick forests as well as numerous drains.

“There was rain as well as thick fog all around,” he told the media.

Giving further details, Colonel Puneet Chauhan, whose unit carried out the operation, said all the troops were put on high alert in Machil sector following specific intelligence inputs about infiltration received from Jammu Kashmir Police and other intelligence agencies.

“On September 25, at around 7.30 am, own troops observed two armed infiltrators in the general area of Tekri Nar, Machil sector. The troops engaged the terrorists,” he said, adding that both terrorists were killed.

He said two AK-47 rifles, six AK Magazines, 53 AK ammunition rounds, four grenades, two pistols and 35 pistol rounds besides Pakistani currency were recovered from the slain.
